August 23, 2016

Charlotte, NC --- Jerry Sands singled home the game-winning run in the 10th inning as Charlotte beat Durham 3-2 in the series opener at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Sands drove a single to right field with two outs against reliever Neil Wagner that scored Leury Garcia from second base just ahead of Hank Conger's tag to drop the Bulls two games out of the South Division lead with 13 to play in the regular season.

Durham had taken a 2-0 lead thanks to solo homers from Taylor Motter in the second inning and Jake Goebbert in the sixth. The Knights evened the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Jake Peter against releiver Adam Kolarek.

With the victory, Charlotte remained 1/2 game in front of second place Gwinnett, with the Bulls remaining in third place two behind. The series between the Bulls and Knights continues Wednesday and concludes Thursday, the final two regular season meetings between the clubs.

Jacob Faria earne a no-decision, throwing 103 pitches over 5 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run.

Justin Marks starts Wednesday night for the Bulls at 7:05 PM ET
