Tavarez Selected to Eastern League All-Star Team

Portland, Maine - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced that Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Aneury Tavarez has been selected to the 2016 Eastern League Season Ending All-Star Team. The Team is voted on by respective Eastern League managers and coaches and media personnel.

Tavarez, 24, is hitting .335/.383/.504 with 18 doubles, 13 triples, 5 home runs, 42 RBI, 53 runs scored, 28 walks, and 17 stolen bases in 98 games with Portland this season.

Tavarez currently leads the Eastern League in batting average and ranks among the league leaders in triples (2nd), on-base percentage (3rd), and slugging percentage (3rd). He set a Sea Dogs franchise record with his 11th triple of the season on August 10th and also set franchise records with five triples in July and five triples in August.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Tavarez was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on 10/18/2010. He was named to the Eastern Division roster for the 2016 Eastern League All-Star Game in Akron, where he went 1-for-3 with a double.

Tavarez is the first Sea Dog to be named to the Eastern League Season Ending All-Star Team since Henry Owens in 2014.

The Sea Dogs conclude their 2016 home schedule on Sunday, August 28th, against the Trenton Thunder and their overall schedule on September 5th in New Hampshire.
