Seddon clicks again on Opening Day

Returned to Double-A, lefty helps blank Diamond Jaxx
April 6, 2007
Chris Seddon made an impressive return to Montgomery on Thursday night as the Biscuits defeated the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, 4-0, in the Southern League season opener for both teams.

Making his second Opening Day start for the Biscuits, Seddon (1-0) gave up one hit, walked one and struck out five over seven innings.

"I felt good," said Seddon, who went 9-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 28 starts with Triple-A Durham last season. "Pretty much everything was working for me tonight. My two-seam fastball worked real well, and my slider came around at the end of the game."

Seddon was assigned to Montgomery to work on his slider with pitching coach Neil Allen, although he said the move was not a demotion.

"They told me to work on my slider and gain some confidence, get that old swagger on the mound back," said Seddon. "The slider towards the end of the game was getting the depth they told me I needed, so it's going well."

Seddon last pitched for the Biscuits in May 2005 before earning a promotion to the International League. He was 6-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 10 starts with Montgomery in 2005.

"It was nice, my second time being the Opening Day guy, so I can handle it a little bit better now," Seddon said. "But there's still those jitters. I was anxious to get out of Spring Training, but these fans were great. Montgomery is a really nice place to play."

Montgomery, the defending Southern League champions, took the lead in the third inning when Reid Brignac's groundout plated Jason Pridie. Brignac and Evan Longoria each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Diamond Jaxx starter Justin Thomas (0-1) allowed one run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
