Draft Report takes in some rays

We here at The Draft Report are feeling tanned and relaxed. That's because this week, most of our reports come from Florida and California.

OK, so technically, TDR wasn't in any of these places, but the cell phone took us there with some help from the tremendous scouting community whose job it is to figure out who should go where come June. And relaxed isn't exactly the right term since we're only about a month away from Draft Day and MLB.com's draft section will be launched next week.

But we're having a lot of fun. This week, there are 11 new reports to peruse. Here's how it breaks down: From Florida, there are five high schoolers -- three pitchers, a catcher and a middle infielder. Out in California, there's one prep pitcher and three from the college ranks (one pitcher, one outfielder and one shortstop). Then, for good measure, there's a look at high school arms in North Carolina and Missouri. So there's plenty of fodder for the draftniks out there.

In other draft-related news, the Phillippe Aumont train keeps on rolling. The big Canadian right-hander continues to be on the rise and impresses every time he throws. Unfortunately, that hasn't been that often in competition because of where he lives, but he will pitch in two games May 6 and 13 at Lynx Stadium in Ottawa. Each outing will be five innings. With his name being mentioned in Top 10 picks discussions, you can be sure the outings will be well-attended. ... North Carolina high school shortstop Justin Jackson reportedly has had some private workouts in front of scouting directors recently, during which he performed well. It's unclear at this point whether these workouts will help the middle infielder's draft status.

Jonathan Bachanov, RHP, University HS, Orlando: In a recent playoff game, this big right-hander gave up four hits and struck out nine to send his squad to the Class 6A, District 4 final. Complete Report

Grant Desme, OF, Cal Poly University: Think there aren't intriguing college bats in the draft? Think again as Desme has been rising up the charts as a five-tool outfielder. Complete Report

Danny Duffy, LHP, Cabrillo HS, Lompoc, Calif.: Yes, yet another high school lefty and this one seems to be on the rise. He struck out 13 in five innings in the outing of this report and more recently had a 17-K performance. Complete Report

Barry Enright, RHP, Pepperdine: Enright, a touch-and-feel righty, has had a very successful career at Pepperdine. He "scattered" 11 hits in a victory against Loyola Marymount over Easter weekend. Complete Report

Yasmani Grandal, C, Miami Springs (Fla.) HS: One of the top backstops in the draft class showed off considerable defensive skills in a recent game against Miami High, though questions remain about his bat. Complete Report

Nevin Griffith, RHP, Middleton HS, Tampa: It wasn't his best performance of the year, but the right-hander showed some good things while getting a complete-game victory over top prospect Michael Burgess and Hillsborough High School. Complete Report

Sam Runion, RHP, AC Reynolds HS, Asheville, NC: Runion certainly didn't hurt his draft stock recently when he pitched his team to an upset win over top draft prospect Madison Bumgarner and South Caldwell High School. Complete Report

Nick Tepesch, RHP, Blue Springs HS, MO: The top prospect in Missouri has impressed with his arm strength and breaking ball. He recently beat Liberty High School with six solid innings. Complete Report

Tommy Toledo, RHP, Alonso HS, Tampa: Toledo, a right-hander with a good feel for pitching, showed the possibility of three usuable pitches in a district playoff game against Countryside on April 25. Complete Report.

John Tolisano, SS/2B, Estero (Fla.) HS: Tolisano has been on scouts' radar screens for quite some time. The middle infielder went 7-for-10 with many eyes watching at the Sarasota Tournament in the beginning of April. Complete Report
