Pettitte Heats Up and Medchill Ices the Game

April 15, 2012
Tampa, Fla. - It was a beautiful day at George M. Steinbrenner Field, and the Tampa Yankees began their three game series against the Clearwater Threshers. Making his second start for Tampa was former New York Yankees Ace Pitcher Andy Pettitte (0-0, 1.29 ERA). Clearwater started Perci Garner (0-1, 3.60 ERA), and the T-Yanks took the game 6-1.

In the bottom of the second, Yankees outfielder Neil Medchill scored from third when Jose Mojica singled to right field putting the T-Yanks up 1-0.

Pettitte left the game after throwing four strong innings, giving up two hits no runs, and three strikeouts. Michael O'Brien came in to start the top of the fifth and Clearwater scored their first and only run of the game. With a runner on third, and a single from Edgar Duran, the Threshers tied the game at 1.

The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Medchill hit his second homerun of the season.

The Yankees put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Medchill stepped up to the plate and delivered for the third time. This time he singled and scored two runners, and after a fly out, Jose Mojica singled to score two more runs, and the Tampa Yankees took the game 6-1.

Game two of the series will be played Monday, April 16th at 7:00pm. If the Tampa Yankees win, all fans in attendance will leave with vouchers to attend a future TY home game.
