Offensive Outburst Propels Dash Past Nats

(Woodbridge, VA) - Dan Black went 5-for-6 with 3 RBIs as the Winston-Salem Dash scored a season-high 15 runs and clobbered the Potomac Nationals by the final score of 15-6. With their ninth win in a row, The Dash have matched their longest win streak in club history.

Black had four singles and a double and has nine hits in the first two games of the series. The Dash put up 17 hits for the second consecutive game and have scored double-digit runs in three of the last four games.

After scoring ten runs last night, the Dash bats stayed hot as they scored three runs in the top of the first. Marcus Simien and Carlos Sanchez reached base to begin the game and Trayce Thompson brought both home with a two-run double. Brady Shoemaker plated Thompson with an RBI groundout later in the inning to increase the Dash lead to 3-0.

Rick Hague drove in his first RBI of the season in the third inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Wade Moore and cut the Nationals deficit to 3-1.

The P-Nats got within a run in the fifth inning with another sacrifice fly courtesy of Randolph Oduber. Kevin Keyes scored on the play after leading off the inning with a double.

Winston-Salem responded the following half inning with four runs against reliever Paul Applebee. Nick Ciolli hit an RBI single that scored Mike Earley to get the two-run advantage back for the Dash. Two batters later Jake Oester lined an RBI double to right field that scored Ciolli. The big hit of the inning was delivered by Marcus Simien as he launched a two-run home run, his third of the season, to extend the Dash advantage to 7-2.

David Freitas continued his hot hitting in the bottom of the sixth inning hitting a towering two-run home run over the left-field wall to bring the P-Nats back within three. Justin Bloxom added another run in the sixth with the third sacrifice fly of the night for Potomac.

The Dash blew the game open in the top of the seventh sending eleven batters to the plate and scoring six more runs. The first six batters of the inning reached including three via the hit by pitch by Wilson Eusebio. Two runs scored on hit by pitches by Eusebio and an additional run was scored on a bases loaded walk. Shoemaker had the only RBI hit in the inning with an RBI double.

Black picked up his fifth hit of the night with an RBI single in the top of the ninth as Winston-Salem tacked on their final two runs of the evening.
