Five Former Claws Heading to Arizona Fall League
Five former BlueClaws, including two from last year's team, will head to the Arizona Fall League. This year, follow former BlueClaws Alec Bohm, Spencer Howard, Nick Maton, Mickey Moniak, and JoJo Romero in the AFL.
The prestigious Arizona Fall League, which began in 1992, opens play on September 18th. All Phillies players will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Former BlueClaws in Arizona Fall League
Alec Bohm (2019) - The 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, the Wichita State product started his first full season with the BlueClaws. He was promoted to Clearwater on April 30th after hitting .367 in 22 games with the BlueClaws. He hit .329 with Clearwater in 40 games finished his season with Double-A Reading. Between all three levels, Bohm .305 with 21 home runs. He is MLB.com's #35 prospect in baseball.
Spencer Howard (2018) - Howard threw a play-off no-hitter for the BlueClaws last year (relive that here). This year, he went 2-1 with a 1.29 ERA with Clearwater and 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA with Reading. The right-hander from Cal-Poly struck out 12 over seven innings in his lone playoff start for Reading.
Nick Maton (2018) - Maton, a 7th round pick in 2017, spent the entire 2018 season with the BlueClaws (and hit the game-tying home run in the BlueClaws ninth inning comeback in Game One of the 2018 SAL Championship Series). He began this year with Clearwater and finished it with Reading, hitting a combined .266 with seven home runs and 12 stolen bases.
Mickey Moniak (2017) - Moniak, the top overall pick in the 2016 draft, spent 2017 with the BlueClaws. After one year with Clearwater, he played the entire 2017 season with Reading, hitting .252 with 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases.
JoJo Romero (2017) - Romero made 13 starts with the BlueClaws in 2017, going 5-1 with a 2.11 ERA. After pitching last year for Reading, he split this year between Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He was a 4th round pick in 2016 from Yavapai JC in Arizona.
