Vogt, Keppinger Lead Way To 14-8 Win

June 21, 2012
ROCHESTER, NY - The Durham Bulls ended an eight game road trip on a high note, recording a season-high 14 runs as they stomped the Rochester Red Wings 14-8. Seven Bulls hitters had multi-hit games as the team smacked a season-high 20 hits, taking three games from the Red Wings and ending their road trip with a 5-3 record.

The Bulls jumped off to a quick start against Wings starter Matt Maloney (L, 0-4), tagging him for six runs and forcing him out of the game after only two innings.

Stephen Vogt extended his team leading on-base streak to 19 games and finishing the contest going 4-for-6 with 4 R and 2 RBI. The 2011 Rays Minor League Player of the Year put the Bulls ahead early with an RBI single in the top of the first. The Bulls kept piling on the runs, with RBIs from Chris Gimenez and Leslie Anderson, taking a 6-0 lead after just two innings.

Matt Torra did not have his best stuff, but he didn't need to. Torra allowed 4 ER in the bottom of the third inning, sliming the Bulls lead to just two. He finished the game going 4.0 IP allowed 5 R/ER on 7 H with a BB and 5 SO, but did not qualify for the win. Ryan Reid, who relieved Torra after the 4th, earned his 4th victory of the season.

After the Red Wings and Bulls exchanged runs in the 4th and 5th innings, the Bulls continued to plug away at the beat up Rochester staff. Durham broke things open with a five run 6th inning, making it a 12 to 5 contest.

Every batter in the Bulls lineup had at least one hit in the game. Rehabbing Jeff Keppinger, had his best game yet as a Bull, going 3-for-4 with 2 R and a double. Between the two teams, Durham and Rochester used 10 pitchers and combined for 32 hits, 22 runs, and two errors in the 3:21 minute affair.

The Bulls head back to the DBAP to start an eight game homestand, hosting the Buffalo Bisons tomorrow night at 7:05pm. The Mets Triple-A affiliate will send LHP Garrett Olson (2-4, 5.00) to the hill to take on RHP Lance Pendleton (2-2, 3.46) for the Bulls. Immediately following the game, fans will be treated to another Friday Night Fireworks display.
