Sojo ties record with Tampa's walk-off

The Yankees' third-base prospect came through with a walk-off double in the 10th inning on Monday, giving manager Sojo a record-tying victory as the Class A Advanced Tampa Yankees defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays, 11-10.

Sojo now owns 418 career wins as a manager in the Florida State League, tying him with the Jupiter Hammerheads' Luis Dorante for the most in league history. Dorante is currently managing one level above Sojo with the Double-A Trenton Thunder.

"When you accomplish that, it's nice," Sojo told the Tampa Tribune last week. "But those things come by themselves. You just want to do the job. Especially when you're in the Minor Leagues, it's not about winning. It's about development. But ... somebody's got to win and lose."

Wilson finished the game 2-for-4, while Jose Toussen led the team with three RBIs. Rob Segedin and Tyson Blaser both collected three hits for the Yankees, combining to knock in three and score twice.

Sojo compiled a .261 batting average in his 13-year playing career, more than half of which was spent in a Yankee uniform. He won five World Series in total -- one with Toronto and four with New York.

He continued his success as soon as he started managing in the Minors, winning an Eastern League title with the Norwich Navigators after he replaced Stump Merrill midway through the 2002 season. He took home another title in '09, when he guided Tampa to its first FSL crown since '04.

Though Sojo has managed Tampa for six of the past seven years -- he took the 2010 campaign off -- he still hopes to work his way up through the organization.

"I like what I'm doing here in the Florida State League, but in my mind I want to move up," Sojo told the Tribune. "When I made the decision to stay in the Florida State League, it was to be around my family. It's been six years now. There's no doubt in my mind that I want to get back to the big leagues."

Sojo will have an opportunity to break the FSL record at home Tuesday when Tampa finishes off a three-game set with Dunedin. After that, the Yankees will head off on a six-game road trip against the Brevard County Manatees and Dunedin Blue Jays.
