River Bandits lose 1-0 heart-breaker at Clinton
The LumberKings and River Bandits combined for only seven hits in the first 1-0 loss for Quad Cities since a seven-inning defeat at Peoria April 20, 2011.
In a scoreless tie in the bottom of the ninth inning, Barraclough (0-1) got LumberKings center fielder Dillon Hazlett to ground a ball to first baseman David Bergin, who had it go under his glove for an error. The next batter, shortstop Chris Taylor, bunted up the first-base line, but Bergin failed to pick it up cleanly for his second error, allowing Taylor to reach first and Hazlett to take second.
After a sacrifice by second baseman Dan Paolini advanced both runners, third baseman Ramon Morla was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Rivers and Barraclough battled to a full count before the batter lined a pitch to the right-center-field gap for a walk-off win. Barraclough finished with two hits, an unearned run, one walk and one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.
Right-hander David Colvin (3-2) allowed only a ninth-inning, two-out single and struck out four batters in three shutout innings for the win.
Right-handers Seon-Gi Kim and Sam Gaviglio each allowed only two hits in the first six innings for Clinton and Quad Cities, respectively.
The River Bandits' best scoring chance came in the fifth inning, when Kim loaded the bases with three walks before getting center fielder Nick Martini to pop out to shortstop.
Quad Cities (16-15 second half, 51-49 overall) fell two games behind Clinton (18-13, 41-58) for first place in the Western Division second half. The series continues at 7 p.m. Thursday, when River Bandits left-hander Hector Hernandez faces LumberKings right-hander Bobby Shore (2-2).

ABOUT THE BANDITS: After four years of ballpark improvements, the River Bandits and the City of Davenport last summer unveiled some of the most impressive enhancements to Modern Woodmen Park yet. A brand new, state of the art, high definition 20' x 35' video board went live on June 7, and the newly enclosed glass Sky Deck on the suite level of Modern Woodmen Park was completed last August. Those improvements, in addition to new flood protection, a new front plaza, and a new parking lot directly across the street from the ballpark, are quickly making Modern Woodmen Park one of the premier facilities in all of Minor League Baseball. More improvements are scheduled for this coming season!
