Back-And-Forth Goes Against Fresno In Extras

Fresno, Calif. - The last time the Nashville Sounds played at Chukchansi Park in 2010, the Fresno Grizzlies and Sounds played into the 11th inning.

On Wednesday, the Grizzlies and Sounds ventured into extra innings once again at Chukchansi Park, but unlike in 2010, Fresno lost to Nashville 7-5 in 11 innings.

The Sounds picked up the game-winning runs in the top of the 11th when left fielder Khris Davis hit a towering fly ball off of Wilmin Rodriguez to right-center field that eventually carried over the fence. Fresno native Sean Halton added an insurance run for Nashville later in the inning with an RBI single to left field.

Eric Farris led the Sounds by going 4-for-6 and three RBI. Farris hit a home run in the third to score the Sounds' first run, and his second run driven in made it 4-2 Nashville in the fourth. Farris later added a run in the eighth on an RBI single that gave the Sounds a 5-4 lead.

Jackson Williams, meanwhile, helped guide the Grizzlies offensive attack by going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Williams hit his 10th home run of the year in the fourth to bring the Grizzlies within one, 4-3.

Francisco Peguero tied it up 4-4 in the seventh when he placed a single up the middle to score Brock Bond.

The Grizzlies demonstrated good baseball fundamentals when Nick Noonan led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single to center field. Juan Ciriaco executed a well-placed sacrifice bunt to the pitcher that advanced Noonan to second. Williams made sure the sacrifice paid off when he dropped a ball near the right field line to score Noonan and tie the game at 5-5.

Brock Bond doubled following Williams' eighth inning single to put runners on second and third base. The Sounds escaped the one-out jam, though, when Fautino De Los Santos struck out pinch-hitter Tyler LaTorre, and Juan Perez forced Ryan Lollis to ground out to first base.

Grizzlies reliever Mitch Lively struck out four in his two perfect innings of work. The right-hander has registered at least one strikeout in 13 straight appearances, and he has 53 punchouts in 59 innings this season.

Jean Machi also threw two perfect innings of relief for the Grizzlies and struck out three.

Bond reached base five times with three singles, a double and a walk.

The Grizzlies and Sounds will reconvene on Thursday for a 7:05 pm game. Right-hander Eric Hacker of Fresno will face fellow righty Tyler Thornburg of Nashville.
