Bulls Drop Five-Run Lead; Swept By Mud Hens 7-5

August 13, 2012
Toledo, OH --- Brad Davis' two-run double in the eighth capped a seven-run rally as the Toledo Mud Hens completed a four-game sweep of the Durham Bulls thanks to a 7-5 victory on Monday night.

The Bulls (57-67) assumed a 5-0 lead in the third inning, sending 10 hitters to the plate. Nevin Ashley drilled a solo homer to lead off the inning against starting pitcher Adam Wilk, then the Bulls utilized three two-out singles to boost the lead. Chris Gimenez singled home two, followed by run-scoring singles by Leslie Anderson and Cole Figueroa, handing Alex Colome a five-run cushion.

The Mud Hens (50-74) sliced into the deficit on a two-run homer by Jared Head in the third.

Colome continued with the three-run lead into the fifth when he was forced out of the game with shoulder tightness, handing a two-out baserunner to reliever Frank DeLosSantos. DeLosSantos hit a batter, then allowed a pair of RBI-singles to trim the Bulls lead to 5-4.

The Mud Hens eventually tied the game in the seventh, capitalizing on a two-base error by Tim Beckham at second base and a single to center by Head.

In the eighth, Toledo completed the rally against Ryan Reid (L, 4-3). With runners at first and second and one out, Audy Ciriaco singled to center, but Rich Thompson threw out John Lindsey trying to score to keep the game tied 5-5. However, Davis grounded a double just past the outstretched Cole Figuera at third base to bring home two runs and finish the sweep for the Mud Hens.

The Bulls continue their road trip in the opener of four against Columbus on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM ET. Ten-game winner Matt Torra starts the opener for the Bulls against Jeanmar Gomez.
