Squeeze Makes Network TV Debut

Squeeze Bobblehead Appears on Mike and Mike
May 8, 2008
In the life of the Vero Beach Devil Rays young mascot Squeeze, Thursday, May 8 will be a historic day, as the grapefruit-headed uniformed baseball player's bobblehead graced the screen on network television for the first time ever with his Mike and Mike in the Morning debut on ESPN. The mascot's bobblehead likeness was sent to Bob Picozzi of the Mike and Mike show by longtime Vero Beach public address announcer Joe Sanchez. The Vero Beach Devil Rays staff had long discussed the possibility of sending a Squeeze bobblehead to the Mike and Mike show, but Sanchez made that dream a reality. Picozzi and Sanchez are long time friends from their time together at Seton Hall.

"It's really an honor," said Squeeze via telephone from his grapefruit grove home. "I really appreciate the folks at ESPN for making the effort to put my bobblehead doll on the Mike and Mike desk to share with the world during the TV broadcast of their radio show. This is a big day for me, and I thank Bob Picozzi and the other great people at Mike and Mike, as well as Joe Sanchez."

Mike and Mike in the Morning airs on ESPN2 Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. The Squeeze bobblehead doll is positioned on the far right of the desk used on the show by Mike Golic.

Community outreach is a priority for the Vero Beach Devil Rays, and the organization appreciates all efforts to partner with it to make the Vero Beach community a better place to live and work. The Vero Beach Devil Rays are a minor league baseball club owned and operated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays. The team is a member of the Florida State League (Advance Class A) and plays at historic Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, FL.
