Former Osprey Shaw heads to Tribe

Right-hander part of 3-team deal, earned save in last O's no-no
December 12, 2012
One of the three pitchers involved in the last no-hitter tossed by the Missoula Osprey pitching staff has found a new team, as right-handed reliever Bryan Shaw was one of eight players involved in a three-team trade on Tuesday.

Shaw, who pitched for the Osprey in 2008, was sent to the Cleveland Indians as part of the deal which included the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds. Also headed from Arizona to Cleveland is the D-backs top pick in the 2011 MLB Draft, Trevor Bauer, and fellow right-handed pitcher Matt Albers.

The Reds send shortstop Didi Gregorius to the Indians, who then in turn traded him to the D-backs, along with left-handed reliever Tony Sipp and first baseman Lars Anderson. The Reds also sent outfielder Drew Stubbs to Cleveland in the trade, and received outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, infielder Josh Donald and cash considerations.

Shaw spent parts of two seasons with the D-backs, and posted a career high this season with 64 relief appearances while posting a 1-6 record with two saves and a 3.49 ERA in over 59 innings pitched. Shaw had a 2-6 major-league mark in his two seasons, with two saves and a 3.18 ERA in 87 2/3 innings pitched, spanning 91 outings.

In parts of five minor-league seasons, Shaw - used as both a starter and reliever in the D-backs' system - posted an 11-19 won-loss mark, with 22 saves and a 4.28 ERA in 123 appearances, 32 of which were starts.

After being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2008 MLB Draft, Shaw made his professional debut with Missoula. In his fourth professional appearance, Shaw earned his first save against the Helena Brewers on June 30, combining with Miles Reagan and Jesse Orosco, Jr., on the third no-hitter in Osprey history in a 1-0 win at Kindrick Legion Field.

Shaw made 10 appearances for the Osprey in 2008, going 0-1 with two saves and a 6.75 ERA. Shaw was then promoted in late July to Class A South Bend.

The 2013 version of the Osprey will open the season on Thursday, June 20, against the Helena Brewers. Season tickets are now on sale at the MSO Hub Box Office at 140 N. Higgins, by phone at (406) 543-3300 or online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
