Spinners Announce Jr. Spinners EBL Program
The Jr. Spinners, formerly the New England Diamond Dawgs, were established by Deschenes, a UMass Lowell graduate who played 10-years professionally, including being part of the Los Angeles Dodgers 25 man roster and two seasons with the Pawtucket Red Sox and Portland Sea Dogs. The team provides an opportunity for winter training and a full schedule of tournament baseball play. Now the Jr. Spinners, the teams will play a number of games and tournaments at LeLacheur Park, while adopting the Spinners' name, logo and colors as their primary marks.
"It is exciting to have such passionate young players donning the Spinners name and logo as they further their baseball dreams," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "We share the same goal as Marc in growing the game of baseball from the youth game up and are thrilled to be able to use our abilities to do so."
The Jr. Spinners program features nine different teams, ranging in age from the U-11 team through the Showcase team of teenage players. Overall, nearly 110 players are part of the program which is headquartered out of the new Future Stars location on Middlesex Street in Lowell.
"We are excited and extremely proud to be partnered with the Lowell Spinners organization. The Spinners staff has been tremendous in providing opportunities and ideas for the partnership and the growth of the program which will provide players the chance to play and be involved in professional atmospheres," said Deschenes. "We look forward to a bright future and the excitement to play and teach baseball at a premier facility like LeLacheur Park."
For the players themselves, they will receive the big league treatment. Each player has a profile page with headshot and biographical information on Lowell Spinners.com, and when home games and tournaments are played at LeLacheur Park, they will be featured on the video board and have their own walk-up music.
"What better way to encourage kids to continue playing the game than to offer them the same treatment our Spinners' players receive at LeLacheur Park," said Bawmann. "We want this to be an incredible experience for all involved."
The partnership kicked off just prior to the holidays in December as the players were welcomed to the LeLacheur Park clubhouse for a media day with photos, uniform fitting and ballpark tours and will get further underway in April when the first Jr. Spinners teams take the field at LeLacheur.
