Columbus, GA - The Greenville Drive (18-18) plated 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning to defeat the Columbus Catfish (18-16) by a final score of 5-3.
The Drive began the scoring in the top of the 1st, when a David Mailman fielder's choice scored Che-Hsuan Lin, who had singled to open the game.
Columbus would answer with 1 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th. Greg Sexton singled to left field to drive in Omar Luna in the bottom of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 4th, Chase Fontaine homered to right center field off of Terumasa Matsuo and then Shawn O'Malley laid down a beautiful bunt single to score Maiko Loyola, who had tripled.
Greenville would do the rest of the scoring. Manny Arambarris had his 3rd straight game with a home run to make it a 3-2 game after 5. In the 9th, Greenville scored 3 runs, led by Jered Stanley's home run to open the frame and tie the game at 3. Arambarris then singled to center field to drive in Michael Almanzar. To get their 5th run, Pete Gilardo hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Oscar Tejeda, who walked.
Greenville was led by Kristopher Negron, who went 2-4, and Manny Arambarris, who went 2-4 with a home run and 2 runs batted in. Arambarris has homered in the first 3 games of this series. Jered Stanley went 1-4 with the game-tying home run over the left field wall and has 3 home runs in the last 2 days. Lance McClain recorded the win, his first at Greenville, after throwing 3 and 2/3 innings of 1 hit relief.
Columbus was led offensively by Maiko Loyola, who was 2-4 with a triple and a run, Greg Sexton, who was 2-4 with a double and a run batted in, and Chase Fontaine, who was 2-4 with a home run and run batted in. Brian Flores fired 6 strong innings, allowing only 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Austin Hinkle took his 4th loss of the season after allowing 3 earned runs in his 1 inning of work.
The Catfish and Drive conclude their series tomorrow night at 7:00 with an expected pitching match-up of Jeremy Hall against Chad Povich.
