Bonderman Named Pitcher of the Week

Right-hander tops the league following 8.0 scoreless innings
May 6, 2013

TACOMA, Wash. - Tacoma Rainiers right-handed pitcher Jeremy Bonderman has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for April 29-May 5, the league office announced today.

Bonderman made one start for the Rainiers over that period, tossing a season-high 8.0 scoreless innings in Tacoma's win over the Tucson Padres on May 2nd. He surrendered just two hits and struck out seven with one walk allowed.

The Pasco, WA native is 2-2 with a 3.57 ERA (14X35.1IP) with 24 strikeouts and nine walks issued over six starts with the Rainiers in 2013. This season is his first pitching in organized baseball since his 2010 campaign with the Detroit Tigers. Bonderman underwent 'Tommy John' surgery in April of 2012.

Originally selected by the Oakland Athletics as a first round pick in the 2001 draft, Bonderman went on to play eight Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers from 2003-07. He was twice selected as the Tigers Opening Day starter and he was key factor in Detroit's run to the World Series in 2006.

Bonderman is the third Rainiers player to be selected for a weekly league award over the last two weeks. Infielder Nick Franklin was named the PCL Player of the Week and right-hander Andrew Carraway was selected as the PCL Pitcher of the Week for April 22-28.

The first-place Rainiers play their final game of the homestand at 11:30 a.m. today against the Reno Aces. Tacoma opens an eight-game road trip with stops at Oklahoma City (May 7-10) and New Orleans (11-14) tomorrow before returning to Cheney Stadium on Thursday, May 16.
