Offensive Players of the Week

Here's a look at the top offensive performers in each league for the week ending May 12:

International League
Mark Hamilton, Pawtucket
(.400/.484/1.000, 7 G, 10-for-25, 3 2B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R 4 BB, 7 K)
A second-round pick by St. Louis in 2006, Hamilton spent seven seasons in the Cardinals system -- including 47 big league games in 2010-2011 -- before signing with the Red Sox in January. He's adjusted smoothly to the International League, batting .280/.393/.540 with 27 RBIs in 30 games, and he's hitting .389 with runners on base. Four of his six home runs came this week, capped by a two-blast performance at Charlotte on Saturday.

Pacific Coast League
Max Ramirez, Omaha
(.500/.500/.923, 6 G, 13-for-26, 2 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R 0 BB, 4 K)
The veteran Ramirez got off to a slow start in April, batting .184 with three homers in 21 games. He matched that home run total in six games this week and is batting .467 in May. The 28-year-old designated hitter went deep against Memphis on Monday, added doubles in each of his next two games and homered in back-to-back games at Reno on Thursday and Friday. Three more hits on Saturday night lifted his average from .188 to .264 during the week.
Omaha's Ramirez hits two-run blast

Eastern League
Anthony Rendon, Harrisburg
(.500/.600/1.000, 7 G, 12-for-24, 6 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 5 R, 6 BB, 4 K)
The top prospect in the Nationals system (and No. 27 overall), Rendon was called up to the Majors in mid April -- despite having just 57 pro games under his belt -- when Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman went on the disabled list. The 22-year-old hit .240/.367/.280 in eight games before returning to Harrisburg on May 4, and if he's disappointed to be back in the Minors, it hasn't shown in his play. Rendon reeled off five straight multi-hit games this week, featuring eight extra-base hits, and lifted his Eastern League numbers to .354/.500/.633 in 23 games with the Senators.

Southern League
Christian Yelich, Jacksonville

Yelich, the Minors' No. 13 prospect, missed the first two weeks of the season with a bruised heel. He's shown no signs of rust since making his Double-A debut on April 20, hitting .329/.407/.633 and reaching base in each of his 19 games with the Suns (including a 15-game hitting streak that ended Friday). The 21-year-old outfielder collected five hits in Jacksonville's 5-4 loss to Pensacola on Tuesday night, including a homer and two triples. Considering the Marlins' woes at the Major League level, it may not be long before this five-tool player joins former Suns teammate Marcell Ozuna in Miami.

Texas League
Anthony Aliotti, Midland
(.524/.600/.905, 6 G, 11-for-21, 2 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 5 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 4 K, 1 SB)
Aliotti had a fine season with the RockHounds last year, hitting .292/.385/.426 and earning both Texas League and MiLB.com Organization All-Star honors. The 25-year-old is off to an even better start in his second campaign in Midland. He leads the league in hitting at .375, ranks second with a .476 on-base percentage and is fifth in slugging (.551). This week he went 10-for-16 over four games between Monday and Saturday, lifting his May average to .487 in 11 games.
RockHounds' Aliotti goes solo

California League
Ryan Mount, Rancho Cucamonga
(.556/.571/1.074, 7 G, 15-for-27, 3 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 6 R, 1 BB, 3 K)
A second-round pick by the Angels in 2005, Mount spent the last four seasons with Double-A Arkansas before signing with the Dodgers in January. Returning to Rancho Cucamonga, where he played in 2008, Mount has nearly matched his home run and RBI totals from last season in his first 28 games. The 26-year-old had five multi-hit games this week, including a 5-for-5 outing with a home run, double and three RBIs at Lake Elsinore on Friday.

Carolina League
Garin Cecchini, Salem
(.389/.500/.889, 6 G, 7-for-18, 3 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 SB, 1 CS)
Boston's No. 8 prospect, Cecchini has long been a terror on the bases, stealing 51 bases last year while being caught just six times. This year he's adding power to his already potent mix of hitting and speed. The 22-year-old's .376/.471/.675 line leads the Carolina League in all three categories, and he ranks second in both runs scored (25) and stolen bases (11). Cecchini has fanned just 17 times in his first 32 games while drawing 20 walks and has reached base in 20 of his last 21 games. With four triples and five home runs, don't be surprised if Cecchini hits for the cycle at some point this season.

Florida State League
Jorge Soler, Daytona
(.467/.471/1.200, 4 G, 7-for-15, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB, 2 K)
The 21-year-old Soler has just 59 Minor League games under his belt, but he's already had a tumultuous career. After defecting from Cuba in 2011, he signed a nine-year, $30M contract with the Cubs last June. Six games into his first full season, he was fined and suspended five games for an incident in which he brandished a bat at an opposing team's dugout. Soler returned the attention to the field this week, slugging a pair of homers and driving in four runs in four games for the D-Cubs. The No. 40 prospect has reached base in each of his last nine games and is hitting .333/.424/.889 in eight May games.

Midwest League
Adam Brett Walker II, Cedar Rapids
(.444/.444/1.074, 6 G, 12-for-27, 4 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 7 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 SB)
Walker has had his share of 0-for-4 games this season, but when he starts collecting hits they come in bunches. The 21-year-old earned his second Midwest League Player of the Week Award after going 4-for-6 with two homers, two doubles and seven RBIs at Beloit on Sunday -- his second seven-RBI performance of the season, to go along with one five-RBI contest and two four-RBI outings. Unsurprisingly, Walker leads the MWL and ranks second in the Minors with 40 RBIs in 33 games. With three blasts this week, he also leads the league with nine long balls and is second only to teammate Byron Buxton with 26 runs scored.

South Atlantic League
Mookie Betts, Greenville
(.480/.581/.960, 7 G, 12-for-25, 3 2B, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 6 BB, 2 K, 2 SB)
Betts' introduction to full-season baseball was rough -- after opening the campaign 0-for-10, he hit just .157 in 21 April games. As the weather has gotten warmer, however, so has Betts: he's hitting .371 in May and slugged three of his five home runs this week, highlighted by a 4-for-5 outing against Augusta on Friday in which he went deep and smacked a pair of doubles. Despite the low batting average, Betts owns an impressive .397 on-base percentage thanks to a league-leading 30 walks.
