Kelly, Bulls Beat Iron Pigs In Opener 3-1

Allentown, PA --- Merrill Kelly earned his second win in three Triple-A starts as the Durham Bulls defeated the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 3-1 in the series opener Tuesday night.
Kelly (W, 2-0) worked two outs into the sixth en route to Durham's second straight win on their eight-game road trip. Kelly allowed six hits and just one run forced in on a bases loaded walk in the sixth. Adam Liberatore entered to retire Steve Susdorf on a flyball to center to exit the jam. Kirby Yates recorded his eighth save recording the final four outs.
Tim Beckham doubled home Cole Figueroa in the third to give Durham a 1-0 lead, then the Bulls added two more runs in the fourth on Ryan Roberts double and a wild pitch from Luis Valdes.
Roberts had two of the Bulls' six hits in the game. Vince Belnome extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Matt Buschmann (2-0) starts the second game of the series against Tom Cochran Wednesday at 7:05 PM ET.
