D-Braves Take Game Two 8-6

Bullpen Shuts Down Bristol Offense
July 8, 2013

DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves got off to yet another quick strike Monday night scoring in the first inning for the fourth time in their past five games. The D-Braves (7-9) used that quick strike offense to get out to an early lead and fend off a rallying Bristol (5-11) squad 8-6.

Connor Lien has played outstanding since being moved into the leadoff spot last week and he used his hot streak to single in the first and then steal second. He moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a Mikey Reynolds groundout to put Danville up 1-0.

Jacob Schrader led off the second inning of the game with his second homer of the season on a 2-0 pitch. Danville ended up scoring 4 runs in the frame thanks in part to two Bristol errors.

The bullpen has been excellent the entire road trip and they continued their great work Monday. Matt Kimbrel, Jordan Sechler, and Michael Swanner combined to shut down the White Sox over the final 6.1 innings ofthe game. The relievers did not walk any batters and only allowed two hits in the game.

Bristol scored all their runs off Andry Ubiera who gave up 6 runs, three earned, in his 3.2 innings. Bristol was able to hit him well as they recorded nine hits off the righty.

Bristol's main offensive outburst came in the third where the scored four runs. Just as Danville had their big inning thanks to errors, Bristol also took advantage of a throwing error by Victor Caratini.

The scoring ended in the fourth as they scored two runs on three hits and one error by Seth Moranda.

Matt Kimbrel came in to relieve Ubiera in the fourth and pitched 2.1 inning in route to earning his second win of 2013.

Swanner came in the ninth and recorded a perfect 1-2-3 inning to record his second save of the season.

The Braves will look to finish off the sweep of Bristol Tuesday as they will send Michael Flores to the mound in search of his first win of the season. Drew Bowen will take the mound for his fourth start of the season and will look to improve upon his already impressive 0.75 ERA.
