Suns Swept, Shutout in Doubleheader

Jacksonville manages eight hits against Lookouts in twin bill
August 19, 2013

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (34-23, 68-56) dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Monday, (19-38, 54-73), losing 2-0 in game one and 7-0 in the nightcap.

The Suns failed to score a run in both games and managed just eight hits against Lookouts starters Chris Reed (4-10) and Andres Santiago (4-12).

Game one featured a tense pitcher's duel between Reed and Suns left-hander Adam Conley (11-6), who pitched well over six innings but was still tagged with the loss. Conley surrendered a solo home run to J.T. Wise in the first inning and an RBI double to Rafael Ynoa in the fifth that accounted for Chattanooga's scoring.

Conley finished with seven strikeouts compared to just one walk, and only allowed three hits, but it wasn't enough for Jacksonville to avoid its first loss of the six-game series.

The Suns' offense didn't fare any better in the second contest. Joc Pederson launched a three-run home run off Jacksonville right-hander Robert Morey (4-8) to give Chattanooga a first-inning lead, and Santiago needed no further assistance. The Lookouts right-hander finished with a complete game, two-hit shutout.

Chattanooga plated four more runs in the third against Morey, with three coming in on Jon Garcia's RBI single and Sean Burroughs' two-run double.

The Suns will look to erase their brief two-game losing streak in game four of the six-game series in Chattanooga, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Jacksonville will send right-hander Bryan Evans (5-4, 4.01) to the mound, while the Lookouts will counter with right-hander Zach Lee (9-9, 3.19).

Suns fans can listen to Tuesday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET with the UF Health Suns Pre-Game Show.
