Legends take series opener; roster moves made
Pellegrini put the Legends on top in the bottom of the second inning when he led off with his 13th home run of the year. Brown led off the third with his third homer. The Legends added another run in the third when Jorge De Leon scored from third when third baseman Jefry Marte, after fielding Eric Suttle's grounder, threw the ball past catcher Kai Gronauer for an error, giving Lexington a 3-0 lead.
Savannah's Josh Satin homered in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3-1, and the Sand Gnats made it a one-run game when Satin singled in a run with two out in the top of the sixth.
The Legends broke it open with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Singles by Pellegrini and Albert Cartwright put runners at first and third with no outs. Pellegrini was out at the plate when first baseman Eric Campbell threw home after fielding Michael Diaz' grounder. Pellegrini's collision with Gronauer allowed Cartwright and Diaz to advance to third and second. After Cartwright scored on a ground out by Freddie Hernandez, Brown tripled to center field, scoring Diaz. De Leon then singled to score Brown and give Lexington a 6-2 lead.
Lexington added its final run in the seventh. Suttle and Ebert Rosario singled, and Suttle scored from third on Pellegrini's sacrifice fly.
Sean Ratliff homered in the ninth for the third Savannah run.
Legends starter Brad Dydalewicz (5-3) allowed three hits and two runs, one earned, in six and one-third innings to get the win. Kyle Allen (5-5) was the losing pitcher.
The two teams will meet again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Applebee's Park.
The Legends made two roster moves. Left-handed pitcher David Duncan joined Lexington from short-season Tri-City, and right-hander Jose Trinidad was placed on the disabled list with an injury to his right shoulder. Infielder Ronnie Ramirez was called up from Lexington to advanced-A Lancaster of the California League, and infielder Chris Jackson joined Lexington from Lancaster.
