Canadians L.B. Dantzler named Player of the Year
(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - The Northwest League of Professional Baseball announced on Wednesday that Vancouver Canadians 1B L.B. Danztler has been named Player of the Year. Danztler becomes the second Canadians player in franchise history to be named MVP of the Northwest League (Javier Herrera - 2004).
Dantzler, 22, was selected in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina where he was named a Capital One Academic All-American.
In 59 games with the Canadians this summer, Dantzler hit .302 (70-for-232) with a NWL leading nine (9) home runs and 35 RBI. In addition to his stellar offensive numbers, Dantzler was also a standout defensively committing just three (3) errors in 415 total chances for a .995 fielding percentage.
Dantzler hit .295 (36-for-122) in 32 games out at Scotiabank Field with 14 RBI to help the Canadians secure a fourth consecutive playoff appearance. As well, Danztler hit .429 (3-for-7) with the bases loaded this summer.
"There isn't much more you can ask from a player in his first year of professional baseball," says Vancouver Canadians manager Clayton McCullough.
"He was prepared to play every day and made the players around him that much better because of the way he handled himself both on and off the field. He is just a quality human being and I couldn't be happier for him today".
The Canadians are in Everett preparing for Game Two of the 2013 NWL North Division Final with Vancouver leading the best-of-three series, one-game-to-none. Danztler was 2-for-4 (.500) with a double and two RBI in Game One.
