Sea Dogs roll to an 8-3 win over Cats

Apodaca drives in 4 runs - Mills earns his 8th win

(Portland, ME) - C Juan Apodaca (4 RBI) blasted his 2nd homer of the year and RHP Adam Mills (8-5) won his 6th straight start as the Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland takes 2 of 3 from the Fisher Cats and opens up a 7-game roadtrip on Monday night in Reading.

Mills worked five innings, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned), one walk and fanned two to earn his 7th win in his 10 starts. RHP Rey Gonzalez (4-6) left the game after 2/3 of an inning due to an injury and suffered the loss for the Fisher Cats.

With the Sea Dogs leading 1-0, Apodaca laced a run-scoring double in the second inning to score 2B Ryan Khoury, who singled. The Portland catcher launched a 2-run homer over the Maine Monster to give the 'Dogs a 6-0 lead in the third inning and drove in the final run with a sac-fly in the seventh inning.

DH Jon Still picked up his organizational leading 65th RBI with a sac-fly in the first off Gonzalez. Portland scored three runs in the second inning of RHP Adrian Martin. After Apodaca's RBI double and 3 consecutive infield-singles produced two runs. LF Josh Reddick and 3B Jorge Jimenez both knocked in runs for the 'Dogs.

New Hampshire cracked the scoreboard in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by 2B Brad Emaus and 1B David Cooper (picked up the RBI). In the fifth inning, a 2-out error by SS Iggy Suarez continued the inning and DH Scott Campbell took advantage with a 2-run homer to right field.

RHP Ryne Miller worked two scoreless innings of relief for the Sea Dogs, allowing one hit, one walk and he picked up one strikeout. Miller earned his first Double-A hold and has yielded one run in 8 IP with Portland. RHP Chad Rhoades and LHP Dustin Richardson wrapped up the win with perfect innings.
