Joe Panik named PCL Player of the Week

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Joe Panik of the Fresno Grizzlies has been named the winner of the Player of the Week award for the period of April 28^th through May 4^th.

Joe Panik recorded 13 hits and eight runs this week, helping the Grizzlies to their current nine-game win streak. The second baseman compiled six RBI during the week and is on a string of four-consecutive multi-hit games. His .344 batting average this season places him ninth in the PCL, while his 42 hits are the third most in the league. Panik aided the Grizzlies to a 7-3 victory in El Paso on April 29^th with a game-tying pinch-hit single that brought home two runs in the fourth inning. He produced his first four-hit game of the season on May 4^th, while adding three runs and two doubles in a win at Albuquerque.

Panik, 23, was a first-round draft selection (29^th overall) of the San Francisco Giants in 2011 out of St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. Baseball America ranks the New York native as the Giants' ninth-best prospect entering 2014. The Player of the Week award is the second of his career, with the previous coming in 2011 when he was a member of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Northwest League.
