Bees Stunned by LumberKings

Clinton comes back from 16 down

(Burlington-IA)- The Clinton LumberKings scored 19 unanswered runs on Wednesday night at Community Field, handing the Burlington Bees a 20-17 loss.

The Bees started scoring with a seven run second inning off Clinton starter Jose Flores. The Bees sent 11 hitters to the plate in an inning that featured three, RBI doubles from Kody Eaves, Chad Hinshaw, and Eric Aguilera.

With an 8-1 lead, the Bees produced their biggest inning of the season, scoring nine times in the fifth. Ranyelmy Mendoza smacked his team leading fifth homerun of the season. Catcher Cambric Moye crushed the first Bees' grand slam of the season, giving the Bees a 17-1 lead.

It was then Clinton's turn, scoring six runs in the sixth inning with the help of two costly Bees' errors. Trailing 17-7 in the eighth inning, Burt Reynolds led off with a solo homer to right. Then Clinton produced three straight hits, including a two run double from Ian Miller to cut the Bees' lead to 17-12.

Clinton's offense stayed hot, loading the bases in the ninth inning. Zach Shank singled in a run to make the score 17-13. Marcus Littlewood tied the ballgame up with a grand slam to left center, which would send the game to extra innings.

The score remained tied at 17 until the 12th when Clinton took the lead on Justin Seager RBI ground out. The LumberKings went on to add two more runs in the inning and went on to win 20-17.

Emilio Pagan (1-0) earned the win while Trevor Foss (0-2) took the loss. LumberKings second baseman Lonie Kauppila (1) earned the save. With the loss the Bees fall to 16-15 for the season.
