June 10, 2014

Norfolk, VA --- Justin Christian made a leaping catch in the eighth inning to save two runs to direct the Durham Bulls past the Norfolk Tides 4-1 on Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

Up 4-1, Christian chased down Francisco Peguero's deep drive to left field with two on, then Ivan DeJeuss grounded into a game-ending double play against Jeff Beliveau (S, 8) as the Bulls (40-27) took a 5 1/2 game lead in the South.

Mikie Mahtook homered in the second to tie the game 1-1, then Christian scored the go-ahead run in the fifth. Christian led off the inning with a double, but remained there after two strikeouts before stealing third and inducing a throw down the left field line to score for a 2-1 edge.

The Bulls added two runs in the eighth against three Tides (27-39) relievers. Jayson Nix doubled home Acosta, followed by a chopper to center by Cole Figueroa to make it 4-1.

Alex Colome (W, 2-0) won his second straight start, working seven innings on six hits with five strikeouts. Batterymate Acosta threw out two basestealers.

The Bulls head to Indianapolis for the first of four against the Indians on Wednesday night. Enny Romero (3-6, 6.16) starts for the Bulls at 7:05 PM ET.
