Sea Dogs and Curve Washed Away...Again

June 12, 2014

Altoona, Pa. -  The Portland Sea Dogs and Altoona Curve were postponed on Thursday night due to rain. As a result, the suspended game from Wednesday and regularly scheduled game for Thursday will be inherited by Portland and made up when the Curve visit the Sea Dogs and Hadlock Field in a series beginning June 20th.

By rule, the suspended game must be played first, before the scheduled opener of the series, thus it will begin at 6:00 PM, Friday June 20th and will complete the full nine innings. The regularly scheduled game for Friday will then go to a 7-inning game.

Saturday, June 21st, will now feature a doubleheader between the two teams and will begin at 5:00 PM, with both games being 7-innings.

The Sea Dogs and Curve were originally suspended on Wednesday night due to rain, with the Sea Dogs leading 2-1 heading to the bottom of the third inning.

The game went into a delay at 7:43 and was officially suspended at 8:07

For the second straight night, the 'Dogs scored early, receiving a two-run homer by Stefan Welch in the second inning. Welch, a former Altoona Curve (2012-13), gave Portland a 2-0 lead off Adrian Sampson. Altoona added a run in their half of the second with two outs. Willy Garcia singled, advanced to third on a single by Gift Ngoepe and scored on a throwing error by right-fielder Bo Greenwell.

Keith Couch allowed three hits, one unearned run and fanned three over two innings pitched.

The Sea Dogs make the trip Northwest and will open up the second leg of their three-city trip against the Akron RubberDucks, Friday night at 7:05 PM from Canal Park. Portland is slated to send LHP Mickey Pena (2-1, 6.17) to the hill and he will face RHP Will Roberts (5-7, 4.02) of the 'Ducks. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network. MiLB.TV coverage starts at 6:55 PM.
