Tri-City drops second game of road trip 3-0

June 26, 2014

LOWELL, MA- The Tri-City ValleyCats could not solve the pitching of the Lowell Spinners on Thursday, falling 3-0 in the second game of an eight-game road trip.

Lowell scored early when Nick Longhi singled off of Tri-City starting pitcher Troy Scribner, driving in Bryan Hudson to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The host squad then added runs in the fourth and seventh frames, while holding the 'Cats scoreless for the duration of the contest.

Scribner (1-1), making his third start of the season for the 'Cats, did manage to strike out five Lowell batters, while allowing two runs (one earned) in four frames. Lowell left-hander Randy Perez earned the win (1-1), thanks to six strikeouts and four hits in six scoreless frames.

Offensively, Tri-City was able to get runners in scoring position, thanks in part to doubles by Ravel Santana, J.D. Davis, and A.J. Reed, but could not break into the scoring column.

The ValleyCats, after winning four straight entering the road trip, have now lost consecutive games for only the second time this season. However, with a record of 8-6, they still sit atop the Stedler Division in first place. They now head to Connecticut for a three-game set against the Tigers, before concluding the road trip with three games in Vermont against the Lake Monsters. The 'Cats will then return home to "The Joe" on July 4th.
