Gregor ends losing streak, extends hit streak

LANCASTER, Calif. - Conrad Gregor ended the JetHawks five-game losing streak by extending his hitting streak to 14 games and hitting the game-winning double to beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 9-8, on Thursday night at The Hangar.

Gregor lined a double over centerfielder Corey Adamson's head in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Brandon Meredith home from first base and send everyone home.

Meredith drew a leadoff walk against Storm closer Brandon Alger (3-2) and Gregor battled during a nine-pitch at-bat. He fouled off five 1-2 pitches before delivering the game winning hit. Gregor drove in three runs in the game with two hits and tied Roberto Peña for the longest JetHawks hitting streak this season.

The JetHawks (47-31) led 8-4 after the seventh inning but Lake Elsinore scored a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the game. Pinch-hitter Dane Phillips started the ninth with a home run off Jamaine Cotton. Cotton followed by walking Adamson and then threw wild on a pickoff throw to first allowing Adamson to advance to second. Diego Goris ripped a two-out single to tie the game. Daniel Minor (5-2) recorded the final out of the ninth and grabbed the win.

Rio Ruiz drove in an unearned run with a single in the first inning but committed an error in the third inning that led to two unearned runs. Josh Hader gave up a Luis Domoromo homer in the third inning as well. The lefty did not factor into the decision but finished with three runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. Hader has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in 12 consecutive starts.

Lancaster got all three runs back in the bottom of the third. Gregor drove in a run with an RBI-single and Roberto Peña hit the first of two doubles on the night to drive home Gregor and Meredith.

Piggyback starter Chris Devenski coughed up the one-run lead in the sixth inning when he allowed a solo home run to Gabriel Quintana but the JetHawks responded again.

Peña doubled and scored on a double play in the sixth inning and then Gregor and Danry Vasquez helped Lancaster to three runs in the seventh. Gregor's RBI came on a ground out before Vasquez knocked in two with a single to right field.

Lancaster pulled back to three games ahead of Lake Elsinore (44-34) in the South Division.

The club's continue the four game series on Friday at The Hangar. Mark Appel will start against Coby Cowgill. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
