June 30, 2014

Pawtucket, RI --- Pawtucket opened up a scoreless game with 10 runs over a three-inning span to down the Durham Bulls for the third straight game, 10-0 at McCoy Stadium on Monday night.

A scoreless game quickly turned into a rout in a short span, with Pawtucket (45-41) storming ahead with four runs in the last of the third before starter Nathan Karns (L, 4-5) recorded an out. After retiring the first six hitters of the game, Karns threw 66 over the next two innings, allowing a three-run homer to Andres Torres in the third as the PawSox seized a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth, Karns fanned the first two hitters before Pawtucket pushed across three more runs. A walk followed by a pair of doubles bumped the lead to 6-0 ahead of a run-scoring single by Torres made it 7-0.

Karns returned for the fifth, recording two quick outs before a single. Jake Thompson relieved but allowed a double and a walk to fill the bases. Alex Hassan promptly doubled home three more runs to leave the first-place Bulls (45-41) trailing 10-0 and destined for their 12th loss in 14 games.

Meanwhile, Anthony Ranaudo (W, 9-4) shutout the Bulls over seven innings, his second such start of the season against Durham. Ranaudo didn't permit a hit until a Curt Casali single in the fourth. Casali also doubled to deep left-center in the ninth.

The Bulls wrapped up the month of June 11-19 and will conclude the season-series with Pawtucket on Tuesday night at 6:15 PM ET. Durham's Matt Andriese (7-4, 5.53) starts opposite Rubby DeLaRosa (2-3, 3.04).
