Dash's Hawkins placed on seven-day DL
Call it suffering for the art of the catch.
After making a great grab in left field Wednesday for Class A Advanced Winston-Salem, White Sox No. 5 prospect Courtney Hawkins has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion, the team announced Thursday.
In the fourth inning of Wednesday's contest between the Dash and Myrtle Beach, Pelicans third baseman Nick Vickerson hit a long fly ball to left field that was headed for foul territory. Hawkins tracked it down and managed to make the grab to the left of the foul pole before slamming into the wall behind him. He stayed on the ground for a few minutes but was able to get himself to his feet before trainers could see to him. He was immediately replaced from the game.
Hawkins is in the midst of his second full season with Winston-Salem. After the White Sox selected him 13th overall back in 2012, the right-handed slugger was given an aggressive assignment to Class A Advanced ball last season and struggled hitting-wise in everything but the power department, putting up a .178/.249/.384 line with 19 homers, 62 RBIs and 160 strikeouts in 103 games.
Since returning to the Carolina League, his 2014 campaign has been much more solid with his line up to .255/.337/.482 with 13 homers in 79 games for the Dash. He was named a league All-Star last month.
