Karns Leads Bulls Past Buffalo, 4-2

Righty Wins 2nd Straight; Moore Homers Again In Win
July 11, 2014

Buffalo, NY --- Nathan Karns worked seven strong innings to lead the Durham Bulls past the Buffalo Bisons 4-2 on Friday night.

Karns (W, 6-5), who worked seven innings for the first time in excatly two months, blanked the Bisons (48-47) over the first five-plus innings. By that time, the Bulls (52-44) had taken a 3-0 lead.

Durham threatened for a large opening inning against former ACC Pitcher of the Year Deck McGuire, who starred at Georgia Tech. McGuire allowed a hit and three walks in the first inning, but managed to escape after allowing only a run-forcing walk to Wilson Betemit.

Jeremy Moore homered for the second straight game, driving out a McGuire fastball over the right-centerfield wall on a 3-2 pitch for a three-run lead. Moore has homered in five of his 14 Bulls games, including four homers in his last five games.

Buffalo plated a run in the sixth on a single by AJ Jimenez, then closed to 3-2 in the eighth with a run off of Adam Liberatore.

However, the Bulls reclaimed a two-run lead in the ninth thanks to a double by Vince Belnome to score Justin Christian who had singled.

Jeff Beliveau (S, 11) worked a harmless ninth inning for his 11th save.

Karns pitched seven innings for just the third time this season, allowing five hits and one run. Karns whiffed seven and walked two en route to his second straight victory.

The series continues Saturday night with Matt Andriese (9-4, 3.41) opposing PJ Walters (2-0, 3.27) at 7:05 PM ET.
