Hamburger Burns Bulls as Durham Falls 4-0

Rochester blanks Durham as Bulls manage five hits

DURHAM, N.C. - The first-place Durham Bulls mustered just five hits in a 4-0 loss to the Rochester Red Wings at the DBAP Tuesday night.

The Bulls (56-47) scratched just one hit in the first four innings against Rochester starter Mark Hamburger (2-1), who shut down Durham with nine strikeouts over seven four-hit innings, including four innings where the Bulls were retired in order.

The Wings (56-48), meanwhile, produced a run in the second inning on a double play grounder and another run in the fifth on a run-scoring groundout. Later in the fifth, RBI doubles by James Beresford and Josmil Pinto extended Rochester's lead to a comfortable 4-0.

Matt Andriese (11-5) gave up seven hits in seven innings, striking out five in a losing effort. The loss snapped his five-start winning streak, and marked just his second loss since May 10. Right-hander Brandon Gomes tossed a pair of scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth. Wilson Betemit recorded two of Durham's five hits.

The loss evened the series at one game each with two left to be played. RHP Nathan Karns (7-5, 5.26) starts for the Bulls on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. opposite RHP Alex Meyer (5-4, 3.30) for Rochester.
