Pitching Aplenty in Doubleheader Split

DURHAM, N.C. - The Durham Bulls earned a split of a doubleheader Sunday at the DBAP with the Buffalo Bisons, falling 3-0 in game one before taking the night cap 1-0.

The first-place Bulls were held to just two hits in the first game, a make-up of a rainout the Saturday night. In his first Triple-A start, Bisons starter Daniel Norris (1-0) baffled the Bulls, allowing just three baserunners and striking out 10 in six innings, before Sergio Santos picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.

Defending AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers got one of the Bulls two hits, singling up the middle in the fourth. In his first game of injury rehab, the Rays standout went 1-for-3, striking out twice.

Nathan Karns (9-6) gave up a pair of RBI doubles in the fifth and a homer to Kevin Pillar in the sixth to take the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in six frames.

In the nightcap, Bulls starter Alex Colome (6-4) allowed just three hits and struck out seven in six innings to pick up the win. The Bulls got their only run in the second inning, as Wilson Betemit walked, advanced to third on a Vince Belnome single and scored on a Robby Price sacrifice fly.

Southpaw Raul Valdes (4-4) took the loss, surrendering the lone run on three hits in 5 2/3 frames. With the doubleheader split, the Bulls ended the five-game series against Buffalo 2-3.

The Bulls hit the road with their third doubleheader in five days against the Rochester Red Wings on Monday evening. Game one begins at 5:05 p.m. and will be resumed in the bottom of the fourth with Durham serving as the home team. A seven-inning game two will follow the first contest.
