Despite Myers' Grand Blast, Bulls Fall Twice To Wings

AL ROY Hits Game Two Slam In Loss; Durham No-Hit In Opener
August 11, 2014

Rochester, NY --- Wil Myers' clubbed a grand slam in the nightcap, but his heroics left the Bulls a run shy as Rochester completed a doubleheader sweep over Durham on Monday night.

After the Red Wings (67-56) no-hit the Bulls (63-60) in the opener, Mike Montgomery (L, 9-5) labored through a 2 2/3 inning start and departed trailing 3-0. Steve Geltz surrendered a two-run triple in the fourth to give Rochester a 5-0 edge and the sweep appeared academic.

However, the Bulls loaded the bases against former Bulls righty Virgil Vasquez (W, 1-0) in the fifth as Myers smashed his first pitch deep over the left field wall for his first home run during his major league rehab assignment. The Bulls put the tying run aboard to leadoff the seventh, but Lester Oliveros (S, 3) retired the next three hitters to close the game down.

The Red Wings' 3-0 win in the opener completed a rain-suspended game from July 24th at the DBAP, which saw weather halt play in the last of the fourth with Rochester ahead 1-0. When the game resumed 18 days later, Logan Darnell (W, 6-5) tossed six no-hit innings behind Trevor May's three hitless innings to complete the fourth no-hitter against the Bulls in their Triple-A history.

Darnell retired the first 16 hitters he faced when the game resumed before walking Hak-Ju Lee with one out in the ninth. Justin Christian grounded into a no-hitter clinching double play. Alex Colome (L, 6-5) absorbed the loss thanks to giving up the game's first run nearly three weeks ago.

Myers played the enitre game in right field, collecting two hits and a steal in three at-bats.

Adam Liberatore tossed two scoreless innings in the nightcap with three strikeouts.

The series continues on Tuesday night with Enny Romero (5-11, 5.01) opposing lefty Sean Gilmartin (2-3, 3.57) at 7:05 PM ET.
