Peraza, Moya among Minors' July standouts

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Minor League Baseball announced today the top players in each of its leagues for the month of July. Each recipient will receive an award from MiLB and a congratulatory letter from Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O'Conner. The winners and their on-field accomplishments for the month of July are as follows:

Andy Wilkins of the Charlotte Knights topped the International League in batting average (.431), hits (47), extra base hits (23), home runs (12), RBIs (31), slugging percentage (.872) and total bases (95). His 25 runs were second best in the league with his on-base percentage (.452) being third best.

Jesus Montero led the Pacific Coast League with his 33 RBIs and 72 total bases. The Tacoma Rainiers first baseman was second in slugging percentage (.692) and extra base hits (17), and third in total hits with 39. Montero's 5-for-5 night which resulted in 6 RBIs on July 4 is just one example of why he is being honored as the PCL player of the month.

Steven Moya was the Eastern League leader in home runs (10), RBIs (33), extra-base hits (18) and total bases (73). His slugging percentage (.652) was second best in the league. The Erie SeaWolves right fielder was also chosen as the Eastern League All-Star Game Top Star, as well as the league's Mid-Season All-Star.

Jose Peraza of the Mississippi Braves led the Southern League in batting average (.359). The second baseman topped the league with his 37 hits. Peraza also proved his speed on the bases with his league-leading 16 stolen bases.

Cory Spangenberg led the Texas League in batting average (.385), runs (20), hits (47), extra-base hits (14), total bases (65) and doubles (11). The San Antonio Missions second baseman was also second in the league with a .533 slugging percentage and fourth in on-base percentage (.419).

Jordy Lara paced the California League with his .434 batting average as well as in extra-base hits (19), on-base percentage (.477) and slugging percentage (.808). His 43 hits, 80 total bases, and 9 home runs were all second best in the league, with his 27 RBIs being third. The first baseman was named the CAL player of the week twice in July and was promoted from the High Desert Mavericks to the Jackson Generals at the end of July.

Glenn Sparkman went 3-0 in July with an ERA of only .87 in 31 innings for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He gave up 22 hits and seven runs, three of those being earned runs. He struck out an impressive 28 batters while only walking three. On July 7, the RHP was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.

Tyler Wagner of the Brevard County Manatees went a perfect 4-0 with an impressive .51 ERA over 35.1 innings pitched. The RHP came out of July giving up only three runs and seven walks, while striking out 25 of the batters he faced.

Tyler Marincov, right fielder for the Beloit Snappers, led the Midwest League in slugging percentage (.783), extra-base hits (20) and doubles (12). His on-base percentage (.444), batting average (.373) and total bases (65) were the league's second best, with his home runs (6) and RBIs (21) a third best. Marincov was named MWL Player of the Week on July 21.

Antonio Senzatela of the Asheville Tourists went 4-0 in the month of July, giving up only seven runs and 16 hits over the course of 29 innings. His .93 ERA was second best in the South Atlantic League. The right hander showed great control striking out 25 of the batters he faced while only walking six.

Joseph Pankake of the Connecticut Tigers led the New York-Penn League in batting average (.407) and on-base percentage (.470). His 35 hits and 10 doubles were both third best in the league. The third baseman will represent the North Team in the 2014 NYPL All-Star Game in Brooklyn, New York, on Aug. 19.

Marcus Davis topped the Northwest League in batting average (.402), extra-base hits (19), doubles (15), on-base percentage (.465) and slugging percentage (.667). The Eugene Emeralds first baseman was second in the league in hits (41) and total bases (68), and fourth in home runs with four.

Max Murphy of the Elizabethton Twins led the Appalachian League with his 22 runs, 55 total bases, seven home runs and a .640 slugging percentage. The left fielder was second in the league in batting average (.349) and third in the league in on-base percentage (.443) and extra-base hits (11). Murphy was named the Appy League Player of the week on July 14 and was promoted to the Cedar Rapids Kernels on July 28.

Ryan O'Hearn set the pace for the Pioneer League with 31 runs and a .405 on-base percentage. The Idaho Falls Chukars first baseman was second in the league with 45 hits and third in total bases with 73. His seven home runs and .658 slugging percentage were also in the top five of the league. On July 7, O'Hearn was named the Pioneer League Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Magneuris Sierra topped the Gulf Coast League in slugging percentage (.598), hits (36), extra-base hits (10), batting average (.439), total bases (49), doubles (8) and on-base percentage (.489). He scored 21 runs, good for third best in the league, as a member of the GCL Cardinals.

Bobby Bradley of the Arizona Indians led the Arizona League in slugging percentage (.644), batting average (.379), hits (33), extra-base hits (14), total bases (56), doubles (9) and RBIs (27). His four home runs were second best in the league, while his 18 runs were fourth best.
