Glasnow shuts down Mets, Marauders win 3-0

Bradenton wins season series 10-8
August 17, 2014

BRADENTON, Fla. (August 17, 2014) - Pittsburgh Pirates top pitching prospect Tyler Glasnow mowed down the St. Lucie lineup as the Bradenton Marauders beat the Mets 3-0 on Sunday at McKechnie Field.

Glasnow struck out eight and allowed just one walk and two singles in seven shutout innings. He only had to throw 80 pitches.

Glasnow retired the last 10 batters he faced.

Marauders reliever Josh Smith retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth to earn his sixth save.

Justin Howard homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the second against Seth Lugo to put the Marauders on the board.

Jose Osuna's two-out solo home run in the sixth off of Lugo made it 2-0.

Jordan Steranka doubled home a run off of reliever Ryan Fraser in the eighth to complete the scoring.

L.J. Mazzilli had both of the Mets hits. Both were singles. The first came with two outs in the first and Mazzilli was stranded. The second came with one out in the fourth. Mazzilli stole second but was then caught too far off the bag by catcher Jin-De Jhang and was tagged out trying to reach third. No else reached and the Mets went 16 up, 16 down the rest of the way.

Gilbert Gomez was the only other base runner for the Mets. He reached on a walk in the third. He was picked off of first by Jhang.

With Jhang throwing out two of the Mets' three base runners, Glasnow and Smith combined to face one batter over the minimum.

Lugo pitched well in his second start of the season. He toss a season-high seven innings and allowed five hits and the two solo homers. He struck out four, bringing his season total to 99.

The game was played in two hours and six minutes, the shortest nine-inning game for the Mets this year.

With the win, the Marauders won the season series 10-8 and increased their first-place lead to 6.5 games over the Mets. Only 14 games remain.

The Mets (68-56, 28-27) continue their nine-day, 11-game road trip on Monday when they start at three-game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. First pitch at Charlotte Sports Park is at 6:30 p.m.
