Jammers snap Doubledays streak

AUBURN, NY - The fans were out in force at Falcon Park on Tuesday night.

Unfortunately, so were the Jamestown Jammers.

The Jammers cranked out two runs in a key seventh inning, and the Doubledays fell 4-1 to snap a three-game winning streak in front of 2,251 fans at Falcon Park.

Jamestown had the first run of the game as well, back in the second inning. Chase Simpson singled with one out against Doubledays starter James Bourque, and David Andriese followed with a double that just stayed inside the right field line to score Simpson. It was the only blemish on the night for Bourque, who tossed five otherwise-spotless innings, allowing just one more hit and no walks while striking out six.

The Doubledays came back to tie in the bottom of the fourth. With Jeff Gardner on second and two down in the inning, Cody Gunter knocked a hooking fly ball towards the left field line. Jammers leftfielder Jordan Luplow laid out for the ball, but it bounced off of his glove, scoring Gardner and leaving Gunter on second with a double.

Unfortunately for the Doubledays, the seventh finally felled their attempt at a fourth straight victory. Rehabbing lefty Joey Webb (0-1), in Auburn working on lowering his arm slot, put runners on second and third with nobody out with Luplow and Michael Suchy both singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Simpson's ensuing base hit up the middle scored Luplow and Suchy to get the Jammers a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Simpson ended his night with a solo home run off David Ramos in the ninth.

The Doubledays travel to Batavia on Wednesday night to open a home-and-home with the Muckdogs. RHP Drew Van Orden (1-3, 4.58) makes his final start of the season for the Doubledays against Muckdogs LHP Ben Holmes (0-1, 2.60). Coverage begins on 98.1 FM and 1590 AM WAUB at 6:50, with the first pitch set for 7:05. Doubledays PA announcer Joe Salzone will join regular play-by-play man Evan Weston as a special guest commentator.
