Gee Dominates Yanks Again, 2-0
Six days after tossing six shutout innings against the IL North division rival, the 23-year old did one better. Gee put up seven zeroes and allowed just three hits as the Bisons shutout the Yankees, 2-0, Saturday evening from Coca-Cola Field.
After missing the final 98 games of the 2009 season, Gee debuted in 2010 on Sunday afternoon in Northeast Pennsylvania and allowed just two hits in six shutout frames. Nothing changed when the scene shifted to Downtown Buffalo.
Gee allowed just four base runners -three singles and a walk. He erased two of those with a strike-'em-out, throw-'em-out doubleplay to end the second inning and a 6-4-3 twin-killing in the fifth. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pushed just one base runner past second base against the righty.
Gee even doubled his strikeout total from his start earlier this week. Gee fanned a Bisons' season-high eight, throwing 60 of his 89 total pitches for strikes.
Bobby Parnell and Elmer Dessens polished off the masterpiece, each tossing an inning in relief. Parnell has now tossed 5.2 shutout innings to start the season, while Dessens earned his second save.
The Bisons got the only runs they would need with a two-out rally in the third inning. Jesus Feliciano singled up the middle and moved to third on Mike Cervenak's double down the left field line. Ike Davis singled to the right-centerfield gap on the first pitch from Yankees' starter Jason Hirsh to plate both Herd baserunners.
For his part, Hirsh pitched extremely well for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He allowed just two runs and struck out four in seven innings of work.
BISONS NOTES: One of the oddities of Gee's dominating performance, shortstop Ruben Tejada caught six pop-ups...LHP Travis Blackley was activated off the team's temporary inactive list. To make roster room, RHP Jose De La Torre was transferred back to Double-A Binghamton.
