LAKELAND, Fla. (April 28, 2019) - Moises Gomez' two-run double in the ninth completed a comeback win Sunday, as the Charlotte Stone Crabs beat the Lakeland Flying Tigers 5-4 to complete a four-game sweep at Joker Marchant Stadium.
With the Stone Crabs (11-13) trailing 3-2 in the top of the ninth, Vidal Brujan singled to center. With one out, Thomas Milone lined a base hit to left center to move Brujan to third. With men at the corners and one out, Gomez pulled a two-run double down the left field line to put Charlotte on top 4-3. The next batter was Zach Rutherford , who ripped a single to left to plate Gomez and cap the rally at 5-3.
Lakeland (9-13) got a solo home run from Reynaldo Rivera to start the bottom of the ninth, but Simon Rosenblum-Larson retired the next three batters to notch his third save.
The victory extends Charlotte's winning streak to a season-high five games.
The Flying Tigers scored the first two runs of the game on a Kody Clemens home run in the second and sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The Stone Crabs got 5.2 innings of two-run ball from Tobias Myers , who struck out two in front of his hometown fans in Lakeland.
With the Stone Crabs trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth, Milone walked before Gomez singled him to second. Three batters later, Russ Olive drove in Milone on a fielder's choice to make it 2-1.
After Lakeland added a run in the seventh to take a 3-1 lead, Gomez pulled a double to start the eighth. After he advanced to third on a Seaver Whalen single, Mac Seibert drove in Gomez with a sacrifice fly to center.
Gomez finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Alex Valverde (2-2) worked a perfect bottom of the eighth to earn the win.
