Lakewood, N.J. (July 8, 2022) – The Hudson Valley Renegades extended their winning streak to six games as they defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-3 on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. The current streak is the longest of the season for the Renegades.

The Renegades capitalized on Mick Abel’s wildness in the top of the first, plating a run without a hit. Trey Sweeney, Everson Pereira and Anthony Seigler all walked to load the bases, and Tyler Hardman lifted a sacrifice fly to give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead.

Hudson Valley tacked on three against Abel (5-7) in the second, with Sweeney blasting a two-run home run to left, and Pereira driving in Cooper Bowman with a triple to center to grow the advantage to 4-0.

Jersey Shore struck back in the bottom of the fourth against Beck Way, when Carlos De La Cruz hit a three-run home run to left to cut the deficit to 4-3. That was the only blemish against Way (4-4) on the night. He threw 6.0 innings and allowed just three runs on three hits, walking two and striking out seven.

Pereira led off the top of the fifth with an historic blast off Abel to give Hudson Valley a 5-3 lead. The solo home run was his eighth of the season and his 22nd as a member of the Renegades. He has moved into a tie for first place on the Renegades all-time home run list with Dan Grummitt, who hit 22 during the 1999 season.

The Renegades added a run in the ninth on a Sweeney RBI triple off Jason Ruffcorn. Sweeney finished the game 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, three RBIs and two walks.

Carlos Gomez threw two scoreless innings of relief in back of Way, and Nelson Alvarez closed out the game in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

The Renegades continue their series with the BlueClaws on Saturday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. RHP Yoendrys Gomez (0-0, 1.23) gets the start for Hudson Valley, while RHP Andrew Painter (0-0, 5.40) takes the ball for Jersey Shore. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network.

*POSTGAME NOTES: *With the win and Brooklyn’s loss to Aberdeen on Friday, the Renegades enter play on Saturday in sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic League North Division. It is the first time this season that the Gades have been in first place in the division by themselves.
