HAGERSTOWN, MD - Jack Irvin threw 5.2 scoreless innings on Friday as Hagerstown topped the BlueClaws 3-0 at Municipal Stadium to take two of three from Lakewood in their three-game set.
The loss drops the BlueClaws to 11-23, 12-games under .500 for the first time this year while the Suns improve to 16-18. The teams have now split six meetings in 2019 and will play three games in Lakewood beginning Tuesday.
Irvin (2-3) gave up four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out a season-high eight and did not walk a batter.
Hagerstown got a pair of early runs off Francisco Morales. Jacob Rhinesmith's RBI double in the first and Pablo O'Connor's RBI single in the second inning gave the Suns a quick 2-0 lead.
The Suns added a run in the fourth on an RBI double by Tyler Cropley to go ahead 3-0.
Morales (0-3) exited after allowing three runs in four innings. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Victor Santos followed with three scoreless innings in relief.
Malvin Matos had two hits in the loss for the BlueClaws.
Lakewood had the tying run in the on deck circle in the ninth, but Jackson Stoeckinger got Ben Pelletier to ground out to third base to end the game.
The BlueClaws return home on Saturday for Bark in the Park. First pitch against the Greensboro Grasshoppers is at 4:05 pm and a pre-game festival with 95.9 WRAT and 100.1 WJRZ begins at 12 noon on the Great Lawn.
