JUPITER, Fla. — The Marauders fell behind by five runs in the early innings Tuesday night and could not bounce back, falling to the Jupiter Hammerheads, 9-3, at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The Marauders (15-13) committed four errors in the losing effort, matching a season-high and leading to four unearned runs by Jupiter (15-13). Four Bradenton pitchers walked a combined nine batters, also matching a season-high.

Left-hander Luis Peralta (0-2) labored through a 38-pitch first inning for the Marauders. He allowed a leadoff single followed by a Kahlil Watson two-run homer, and after another single, recorded two outs before issuing back-to-back walks to load the bases. Peralta then struck out Cameron Barstad to end the inning, but the left-hander would not return for the second inning.

After an Alexander Mojica RBI-double in the top of the second cut the Marauders’ deficit to 2-1, the Hammerheads sent eight men to the plate in the bottom half against reliever Jake Sweeney. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with none out, and after a Brady Allen sacrifice fly, Osiris Johnson struck out. But Ian Lewis followed with an RBI-single, and a throwing error on the play by third baseman Juan Jerez allowed Lewis to circle the bases, scoring three runs on the play to hand the Marauders a 6-1 deficit. Jupiter would add another run in the third against Sweeney on an Allen RBI-single.

The Marauders battled back in the fifth against Hammerheads starter Luis Palacios (2-1). Sergio Campana and Wyatt Hendrie opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and a Brenden Dixon single and a Jase Bowen ground-rule double drove in one run each, bringing the score to 7-3. But two strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning, leaving Dixon and Bowen stranded in scoring position. Bradenton would not put another runner into scoring position for the rest of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Hammerheads got a leadoff double by Watson off Denny Roman. Watson proceeded to steal third base, and catcher Hendrie’s throw to third base flew past Jerez, allowing Watson to score and re-extending Jupiter’s lead to 8-3.

Roman provided otherwise steady relief, allowing just one unearned run across three and one-third innings for the Marauders despite walking three batters.

The Hammerheads’ final run came in the eighth off Darvin Garcia, when Barstad reached on a fielding error by shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Salas.

The Marauders managed just two more hits, both singles, in their final four innings at the plate as Jupiter relievers Yeuris Jimenez and Jake Schrand each pitched two scoreless frames.

The series continues Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. RHP Valentin Linarez (0-3, 12.27) will start for the Marauders against RHP Edgar Sanchez (3-0, 2.57 ERA) for Jupiter.
