Lake County Drops Dayton Out of First Place with 11-2 Drubbing

(DAYTON, OH) – The Lake County Captains (33-30) posted six runs in the top of the sixth inning, in a rout of the Dayton Dragons (38-26) 11-2 on a hot Tuesday evening at Day Air Ballpark.

Tanner Bibee guided the way for Lake County and had only one blemish through 5.1 innings. The Dragons’ Austin Hendrick lifted a solo shot to deep left-center field in the second. After that Bibee allowed only one other hit and struck out 10 batters, matching a season-high. The 2021 Fifth Round Pick now has a 2.83 ERA over 11 starts.

The Captains scored in five different innings, starting in the third, where they took the lead. Lake County strung together three straight singles to begin the inning, with the tail end being an RBI base knock from Mike Amditis. Angel Martinez would bring home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Johnathan Rodriguez would blast two home runs. To extend the lead in the fourth, with a solo missile to left center to make it 3-1 and then the final run in the game was a broken-bat dinger launched over the left-center field wall.

In the top of the sixth, Lake County plated six runs all with two outs. Milan Tolentino hit an opposite field double to score Petey Halpin. Gabriel Rodriguez would flick a ball into right field to plate Tolentino. Mike Amditis would follow up and smack a double down the left-field line, the Lake County catcher went 4-4 on the evening.

Following that Angel Martinez and Joe Naranjo walked to load the bases and then Jhonkensy Noel reached on a base on balls to score Amditis. The final two runs of the frame came across on a Alexfri Planez single to right-center field.

Raymond Burgos worked two innings, allowing just a run, while Alaska Abney collected the final five outs.

Tomorrow Wednesday, June 22 is the final day of the first half of the season. Lake County and Dayton will play two games, to make-up for the rain out on May 4. First pitch of game one is at 5:35 p.m.
