Lookouts Drop First Game After All-Star Break, 10-6

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lookouts dropped the series-opening game on Friday night to the Tennessee Smokies, 10-6, from AT&T Field.

The Smokies got on the board first racing out to a 6-0 advantage after three innings.

Chattanooga (38-50) slowly started chipping away scoring with a solo shot from Alex McGarry in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Lookouts put up five runs to even things at six.James Free got things started with a leadoff single and came around to score after a pitch hit McGarry. TJ Hopkins doubled in three runs to cut the lead to one and just a few batters later Nick Quintana brought Hopkins home with an RBI double.

Tennessee (47-41) answered with four runs in the seventh to take the lead and never relinquished it holding on for the 10-6 win.

Hopkins paced the Lookout offense with a 2-for-4 day with a double and three RBIs. Free joined the multi-hit club going 2-for-4. Ivan Johnson extended his hit streak to 17 games finishing 1-for-4.

Connor Curlis got the start on the bump for Chattanooga lasting only two innings allowing three runs on four hits, three walks, and struck out two batters. Ryan Nutof (1-2) was given the loss pitching 1.2 innings giving up four hits, four runs (three earned), three walks, and fanned three batters.

Amaya paced the Tennessee attack with a 3-for-5 contest including a double and two RBIs. Samuel Reyes (3-0) picked up the win with 1.2 innings in relief allowing a run on two hits, no walks and struck out a pair. Bailey Horn picked up his second save of the season with three innings of work not allowing a hit or run while walking two and striking out two.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at AT&T Field. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
