Chattanooga brought out the bats Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field sweeping both games from the Montgomery Biscuits.
In game 1 the Lookouts prevailed late to overtake the Biscuits 8-7 in Saturday's suspended game. Going into the contest, Chattanooga was trailing 7-1 in the bottom of fifth with the bases loaded. The Lookouts took advantage of the rally started yesterday, netting three runs to bring the score to 7-4.
Chattanooga was threatening again in the sixth inning, when Michael Beltre belted his third dinger of the year with a two-run blast to right field to dwindle the Montgomery lead down to 7-6. The Lookouts were not done there as they tied the score at seven apiece, thanks to Jonthan India driving in Yonthan Mendoza on an infield throwing error. Chattanooga then took hold of the lead 8-7, when Gavin LaValley smashed a sacrifice fly to dead center scoring Stuart Fairchild.
The Lookouts would then cruise, thanks to the bullpen arms holding the Biscuits bats hostage. Southpaw Ty Boyles earned his second win of the year, as he started the game tossing three strong innings, allowing just one lone hit, with a pair of punchouts. Righty Ryan Hendrix dazzled a pair of scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth shutting the door tallying his first save of 2019.
Chattanooga picked up right where they left off in game two, as the offense blasted the Biscuits 10-5.
The Lookouts offense hit the ground running in the first with a 4-0 lead, thanks to Gavin LaValley clearing the bases with a grand-slam for his ninth homer of the year.
Montgomery came right back with their own momentum collecting a pair of runs on a triple and a sacrifice fly in the second inning to cut the Lookouts lead in half 4-2.
The offensive showing for Chattanooga didn't stop in the bottom half of the inning, as they tallied five more runs to seize control of the lead 8-2. The second inning rally was thanks to four hits including a Brantley Bell double, along with a pair of walks. Gavin LaValley collected his sixth RBI of the day with an RBI single up the middle.
The Lookouts would pile on another pair of runs in the third inning taking the score 10-2. Chris Okey would smash a solo-shot for his seventh of the year, while Jonathan India would drive in another run on an infield throwing error.
Right-hander Johendí Jiminian netted his fourth win of the year, as his offense backed him to pitching five strong innings allowing three earned runs, on seven hits.
Montgomery would try to fight their way back into the game late with three more runs, but the Lookouts lead was just too much to overtake, with Juan Martinez closing out the ninth inning to secure the second win of the day.
Chattanooga is back at the diamond tomorrow with first pitch at 7:15 PM as southpaw Reiver Sanmartin (2-7, 4.58 ERA) gets the start against RHP Joe Ryan (0-0, 4.15 ERA)
