JUPITER, Fla. (May 7, 2019) - The St. Lucie Mets and Jupiter Hammerheads split their doubleheader at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Tuesday.
Jupiter won the first game 2-1 in eight innings. The Mets bounced back to win the second game 2-0. It was their fourth shutout victory of the season.
In game 2, Jacob Zanon started the contest off with a bang. He hit a long leadoff home run vs. Jordan Rogers.
That was enough for the two Mets pitchers, Kyle Wilson and Yeizo Campos. Wilson tossed five innings and worked around four hits and four walks. He wiggled out of a bases load, no-out jam in the third inning by getting a strikeout, infield popup and a fielder's choice.
Wilson also worked around an error and a walk in the fifth inning to complete his night.
Campos pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season. He got Jose Devers to fly out with two runners on to end the game.
Nick Meyer went 2 for 3. He ripped a critical two-out RBI hit in the fourth to put the Mets up 2-0.
Luis Carpio went 2 for 3 with a triple and a run.
In game 1, Jupiter's Lazaro Alonso crushed a walk-off RBI double in extra innings to break a 1-1 tie.
Carpio had the only two hits for the Mets.
Dedniel Nunez made his St. Lucie debut on the mound. He gave up one run on two hits in four innings. He struck out four in taking the no-decision.
Braxton Garrett gave up one run over 5.2 innings for the Hammerheads.
Manny Rodriguez scored the Mets only run in the third inning on Quinn Brodey's ground out.
Jupiter scored its only run in regulation on a sac fly in the first inning.
The Mets (17-13) and Hammerheads (10-20) play their series finale on Wednesday. First pitch at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
