ZEBULON, N.C. (April 26, 2018) - Connor Myers homered and collected a career-high four RBIs and Tyson Miller fired six dominant innings Thursday to help the Myrtle Beach Pelicans win their doubleheader finale 8-1 over the Carolina Mudcats after falling 8-0 in the twin bill opener at Five County Stadium.
The Pelicans (7-14) trailed 1-0 in the fifth inning of game two when Aramis Ademan notched an infield single with two outs for the Birds' first hit of the game. Myers then blasted a two-run shot to left off Carolina (11-10) starter Conor Harber (0-1) to put the Birds ahead 2-1.

That proved to be enough for Miller (2-2), who yielded just an unearned run on two hits in six dominant innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked one to pick up the win and help Myrtle Beach salvage the three-game set.
Still up 2-1 in the sixth, the Pelicans would give Miller some valuable insurance just in case. Austin Upshaw singled with two outs and Chris Pieters drew a walk. Daniel Spingola followed with an RBI single before Ademan drew another free pass. Myers laced a two-run double to left to widen the margin to 5-1. P.J. Higgins followed with a two-run double of his own and then Vimael Machin connected on an RBI single to put the tally at 8-1. The six runs the Birds plated in the sixth were their most in any inning all season.
Carolina initially got on the board in the fourth on a pair of Myrtle Beach errors.
In game one, the Mudcats jumped all over Pelicans starter Jose Paulino (0-3) early. An error put Dallas Carroll on to start the first before Keston Hiura notched a single. Two batters later, Ronnie Gideon registered an RBI single to get the Muddies on the board. A Ryan Aguilar sacrifice fly made it 2-0 in the first.
After Paulino worked a 1-2-3 second inning, Carroll singled, Hiura doubled and Tucker Neuhaus singled them both in to start the third. A pair of errors on a Neuhaus stolen base attempt allowed him to score, and later in the frame, Luis Aviles Jr. tripled in a run to widen the gap to 6-0.
In the fourth, again Carroll and Hiura started the inning with base hits. The former singled and the latter double to put men on second and third with nobody out. Neuhaus recorded an RBI ground out and Gideon singled in Hiura to increase the lead to 8-0.
That was more than adequate for Carolina starter Cam Roegner (2-0), who scattered six hits without walking a batter and striking out three in his scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Myrtle Beach begins a three-game set with the Salem Red Sox with Friday's 7:05 p.m. contest. LHP Bryan Hudson (2-1, 4.80 ERA) goes for the Birds against Salem RHP Roniel Raudes (1-1, 3.86 ERA). Coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. on MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast, TuneIn and the MiLB First Pitch app.
