VISALIA, CA. - Nick Thurman provided the only offense in the Modesto Nuts' 3-1 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Monday night at Recreation Park.
Nick Thurman tied the game for the Nuts (17-21) with a booming solo home run over the right-center field scoreboard in the third inning against Rawhide (25-12) starter Jeff Bain (W, 4-1). The Nuts would record one more hit the rest of the night as they suffered a loss in the four-game series opener.
Bain worked six innings and struck out a season-high eight batters while walking two. Mack Lemiux followed out of the 'pen and tossed two perfect innings. Cole Bartlett (S, 3/3) worked a perfect ninth.
Austin Hutchison (L, 1-5) allowed a run in the first inning. With a runner at second, Camden Duzenack singled to right. The runner, Jose Caballero, was stopped at third while the throw to the plate was cut off. Duzenack got caught in a rundown between first and second while Caballero scored.
In the fourth, the Rawhide took the lead for good when Anfernee Grier singled home Luis Basabe.
Hutchison worked five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Gerson Bautista made his third Major League rehab appearance. The righty turned in his first perfect inning with a pair of strikeouts.
